If an E-Verify case received a Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC) case result, this means that the information the employer entered in E-Verify from the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, did not match with the records available to DHS and/or SSA.

This error statement refers to reviewing the TNC Further Action Notice steps, which are found here. The E-Verify is pending because there are steps needed to be taken by the employee and employer.

To simplify, it means the government is not able to authorize the work eligibility based on the provided info. Below are the possible reasons that cause the TNC.

  1. Photo match is required.

  2. New employee changed their name/last name.

  3. Information is inconsistent between different government departments.

In this scenario, the HR Manager can open the E-Verify case by clicking Show E-Verify to check the reason and advise the new employee accordingly.

  • If it's a photo match, the HR Manager needs to check the document and mark it as Match or Not match.

  • If the information is caused by inconsistency between different government departments, the employer needs to print the Further Action Notice under Step 1, and refer the new employee to the related government department. Follow Step 2 then mark the checkbox in Step 3.
